Associate Professor Jie Bao

A/Prof. Jie Bao’s research area is process control theory and applications. He and his research group (the Computer Process Control Group in the School of Chemical Sciences and Engineering) have developed new approaches to decentralized control, robust control, fault tolerant control and controllability analysis for industrial process systems, based on the concept of passive and dissipative systems. Collaborating with researchers in United States, Hungry and China, A/Prof. Bao’s research team is currently studying the control theory needed for design and control large energy networks. This work includes dynamic controllability analysis for complex process networks and control system design (control of process networks via networks of controllers) for process networks. The focus of current research is: (1) the framework of control design and system analysis based on networks of physical energy/mass flow; (2) flexible and scalable control system design approaches; and their applications in distributed renewable energy networks. A/Prof. Jie Bao is an Associate Editor of Journal of Process Control, the leading journal in process systems engineering.
