He is Founding Co-Director of Sino-Australia Joint Research Centre Advanced Carbonisation Processes, China which aims to reduce the environmental impact of coal through partnership of Australian-Chinese researchers for increasing the efficiency of carbonization processes by integrating chemical-looping combustion, hot gas cleaning and biomass utilization. He has more than 14 years of coal research experience in Australia and overseas dealing with impact of coal utilization on thermal performance of utilities and eco-efficiency of metallurgical processes. His research is focused on advanced characterisation to assess the impact of coal properties on carbonisation, combustion and gasification phenomena. Other research interests include coal activation for advanced energy solutions, fly ash utilisation and hot gas cleaning. He has made several invited presentations in US, Europe and Asia on sustainable coal utilization and published more than 100 articles including journal, conference papers and scientific reports. He is a Fellow and member of Operating Committee of Australian Institute of Energy, Sydney.
