Dr Bettina Rosche
Research Team Leader BABS
Every day humanity uses thousands of goods that contain various chemicals. These have been industrially produced with impact on our planet. The research team led by Bettina Rosche focuses on biocatalysis for the sustainable production of chemicals. Microbes and enzymes are environmentally friendly catalysts, as they can be produced from renewable resources, are biodegradable and operate with high precision under mild reaction conditions. Since conventional chemical production often requires high temperatures and pressures, a transition to a bioprocess under mild conditions will save energy. Biocatalysis is gaining increasing industrial interest and we have received more than A$ 1 million research funding from the chemical company BASF since 2004. Contact: b.rosche@unsw.edu.au
